A synopsis of David Walliams' The Boy in the Dress
The Boy in the Dress follows the story of a 12-year old boy named Dennis. At first glance, he seems just like your average pre-adolescent, or at least your average pre-teen boy anyway, who is a star striker on the school football team. But of course, there are two sides to every coin and life for Dennis is tough after his mum leaves home. His only reminder of her is a photo of her in a yellow dress: a dress he just so happens to want to wear himself. And oh what a beautiful dress it is, just like the one the girl on the cover of Vogue magazine wears. It isn’t too dissimilar to the dress that Lisa James, only the coolest girl in school, has been sketching in her notebook either.
Dennis soon comes to the conclusion that it's possible to like both football and dresses, but he isn’t sure how the headteacher, Mr Hawtrey, will take it when he discovers that the strict uniform code has been broken by none other than a boy wearing women's clothing.
