By Sarah Gengenbach

When Jez Butterworth’s new play The Ferryman was announced there was an immediate buzz around it. In fact, when tickets to the run at Royal Court Theatre, directed by Sam Mendes went on sale they broke the theatre’s box office record for fastest selling show. Tickets to the entire run sold out its first day on sale.

The announcement comes ahead of the opening of the Royal Court run. The transfer has been announced in conjunction with Sonia Friedman Productions, Neal Street Productions, and Royal Court Theatre Productions. The 16 week run will begin previews 20 June ahead of its official opening 29 June and close its run 7 October 2017.

Paddy Considine is slated to reprise his role as Quinn Carney and will be joined on stage by Laura Donelly and Genevieve O’Reilly playing the roles of Caitlin and Mary Carney, respectively. The cast of 28, compiled from a full company of 38 performers includes  Bríd Brennan, Turlough Convery, Fra Fee, Tom Glynn-Carney, Stuart Graham, Gerard Horan, Carla Langley, Des McAleer, Conor MacNeill, Rob Malone, Dearbhla Molloy, Eugene O’Hare and Niall Wright.
