Debbie Kurup

Born on 3rd July 1979 in Sunderland, England, Debbie Kurup is an Olivier nominated actress and singer.

 

Awards:

She won the 2013 Whatsonstage.com Award for her performance as Nicki Marron in The Bodyguard. She also won the BroadwayWorld.com UK Award for Best Actress in a Supporting Role in a Musical.

Theatre:

Her numerous theatre credits include Girl From the North Country (Old Vic, 2017) where she portrayed the role of Mrs Neilsen; Sweet Charity (Donmar Warehouse); Anything Goes (UK/Ireland Tour, 2015) where she appeared as Reno Sweeney, for which she received an MTA Best Actress nomination; The Threepenny Opera (National Theatre), and The Bodyguard (Adelphi Theatre, 2013).

She has also appeared in Chicago (Adelphi Theatre, 2006/Cambridge Theatre, 2011) where she played the role of Velma Kelly; Ben Elton’s Tonight’s the Night (Victoria Palace); Rent (Prince Wales Theatre/UK Tour) where she played Mimi; Fame the Musical (UK Tour) where she portrayed the character of Carmen; I Love You Because (Landor Theatre, 2007/Clapham, London) where she took on the role of Diana Bingley; Sister Act (London Palladium) where she played KT and understudied the lead role of Deloris; and West Side Story (UK Tour) where she was seen as Anita/Consuela.

Other theatre credits include Nancy in Oliver (Larnaca International Festival); Sylv in Steven Berkoff’s East (Leicester Haymarket); Rachel in The Dying Game (Greenwich Theatre, workshop); Pepper in I Sing (Union Theatre); Julie in Hot Stuff (Leicester Haymarket); Rosalyn in Stand by Me (UK Tour); Diane in Pal Joey (Chichester Festival Theatre); Boogie Nights (Savoy Theatre/UK Tour); Poison (Tricycle Theatre), and Bad Girls – The Musical (New Players) as Denny Blood.
