Sergei Polunin presents SATORI a mixed multimedia programme. SATORI will feature an international cast and creative team, including Polunin himself. With Project Polunin, Polunin aims to create new dance and ballet works for both stage and film, through the collaboration between dancers, contemporary artists, musicians and choreographers from all creative backgrounds.
Acclaimed choreographer Andrey Kaydanovskiy has created a new short ballet, First Solo, starring Polunin; in celebration of the 125th anniversary of his birth, and with the backing of a full orchestra Kasyan Goleizovsky’s ballet suite Scriabiniana will have its London premiere; directed by Gabriel Marcel del Vecchio with an original score by Lorenz Dangel the programme will finish with the world premiere of Sergei’s own Satori.
Ukrainian ballet prodigy Sergei Polunin trained at The Royal Ballet School before joining The Royal Ballet, where he rapidly rose through the ranks, becoming their youngest principal ever. After leaving in 2012, Sergei Polunin gained international stardom from his collaboration with photographer David LaChapelle, performing to Hozier’s Take Me to Church, and featuring in the biographical film Dancer.
Drawing together world-class artists for this brand new production, Project Polunin aims to challenge perceptions of dance through live performance, and act as a catalyst for a new generation to explore what the future may hold.
On Sunday 10th December only the programme will include an exclusive performance of the ground-breaking solo Take Me To Church choreographed by Jade Hale Christofi and danced by Polunin, the performance is based on David LaChapelle's video which went viral in 2015.
