The popularity of Crazy For You at the Regent Park Open Air Theatre revived the love for the classic American musical, perhaps demonstrating how nowadays we enjoy a bit of nostalgia and the glitz and glamour of a bygone age to counteract the economic and social decline of today.

Crazy For You is a Gershwin musical filled with classic songs by George and Ira Gershwin the brothers who collaberated together until the death of George Gershwin in 1937 aged only 38 years old. On October 14th 1930, the show Girl Crazy opened on Broadway making stars of Ginger Rogers and Ethel Merman and it is this show that the show Crazy For You is largely based on but with some of their other classic and unforgettable songs from other productions also incorporated.

The plot follows the typical "backstage story of putting on a show". In Crazy For You a stage-struck New York playboy, Bobby Child, is sent to a small, poor town in Nevada to close down the local theater. Soon Bobby falls in love with the theater owner’s daughter, Polly. In order to save the theatre, he dreams up the idea to put on a show to raise money for the theatre. In the end, the town is reinvigorated, the theatre is saved and Bobby finds love. The show features such classics as Bidin' My Time, Shall We Dance, Embracacle You, They Can't Take That Away From Me and I got Rhytham.

The original production on Broadway was the winner of the Tony Best Musical Award and led to sucessful West End production from 1993 to 1996 also winning an Olivier Award.

This new production directed by Timothy Sheader with dazzling choreography by Stephen Mear proved so popular that even rain on the opening night stopping the show to clear up the stage didn't stop the audience enjoying 3 hours of non stop music and dancing that would lift the spirits of anyone. Now transferring to the Novello Theatre London has a chance to get their feet tapping without being rained on!
