THE CURIOUS INCIDENT OF THE DOG IN THE NIGHT-TIME MOVES TO THE GIELGUD THEATRE FROM 24 JUNE

The National Theatre’s production of The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time – winner of seven Olivier Awards – will resume its West End run at the Gielgud Theatre from 24 June (opening night 8 July).
Tickets will go on sale to the general public on Friday 17 January, with a week’s priority before that for those who have had bookings at the Apollo Theatre, where performances were suspended after part of the ceiling collapsed on 19 December.
Nick Starr, NT Executive Director, said: “We are grateful to Delfont Mackintosh Theatres for providing us with another home on Shaftesbury Avenue for the show, which has played to full houses at the Apollo since it transferred there last March. It will be a real wrench to leave that beautiful theatre, but sadly the closure of the gallery to enable its restoration means that the show no longer works economically there. We look forward to renewing our relationship with Nimax Theatres on another show in the future.”
Nica Burns, CEO of Nimax Theatres, said: “This was and is a deeply upsetting incident for everyone. We are sorry to lose such a wonderful production and wish it well.”
Ticket-holders for performances at the Apollo Theatre will be contacted to offer a refund or a transfer of their bookings to the Gielgud Theatre.
In February, during the lay-off of the production, the NT is taking the opportunity to offer free performances of The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time for schools and young people. These will be performed by the cast from the Apollo in a rehearsal-room format with minimal settings and lighting. Further details will be announced shortly.
An encore screening of the National Theatre Live broadcast of The Curious Incident…, filmed during the play’s original run in the Cottesloe Theatre, will be shown in UK and international cinemas on 22 May with further screenings in following weeks.
It is also confirmed today that the much-anticipated Broadway premiere for The Curious Incident…will open in New York in October this year. Further details will follow shortly.
The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time is based on Mark Haddon’s award-winning novel, adapted by Simon Stephens and directed by Marianne Elliott. The production is designed by Bunny Christie, with lighting by Paule Constable, video design by Finn Ross, movement by Scott Graham and Steven Hoggett for Frantic Assembly, music by Adrian Sutton and sound by Ian Dickinson for Autograph.
