Based on Roald Dahl’s much-loved children’s novel, the musical follows Charlie Bucket as he wins one of five Golden Tickets and steps inside Willy Wonka’s extraordinary chocolate factory. Filled with magical inventions, spectacular sweets and unforgettable characters, Charlie’s adventure takes audiences into a world where imagination knows no bounds.

Charlie and the Chocolate Factory The Musical follows Charlie Bucket, a kind-hearted young boy who lives with his family and dreams of a better life. When Charlie finds one of five Golden Tickets hidden inside a Wonka chocolate bar, he wins the chance to visit the mysterious chocolate factory.
Alongside the other lucky winners, Charlie enters a world of chocolate rivers, extraordinary inventions, Oompa-Loompas and fantastical surprises. But as the children make their way through the factory, their behaviour leads to unexpected consequences. At the heart of the story is Charlie’s journey and the enduring message that kindness and humility matter.
Charlie and the Chocolate Factory first opened in London's West End at the Theatre Royal Drury Lane in 2013, where it ran until January 2017. The original production was directed by Sam Mendes, with a book by David Greig and music and lyrics by Marc Shaiman and Scott Wittman.
The West End production was nominated for seven Olivier Awards in 2014, including Best New Musical, Best Actor in a Musical for Douglas Hodge and Best Supporting Actor in a Musical for Nigel Planer. It also received nominations for its set, costume, lighting and choreography, winning two awards for Costume Design and Lighting Design.
The story now returns to London in a brand-new production at the London Coliseum, with Michael Ball taking on the role of Willy Wonka.
