Meet Willy Wonka, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory at the Theatre Royal Drury Lane.

About Charlie and the Chocolate Factory

Roald Dahl's deliciously dark tale of young Charlie Bucket and the mysterious confectioner Willy Wonka comes to life in a brand new West End musical directed by Academy Award winner Sam Mendes.

When Charlie wins a golden ticket to the weird and wonderful Wonka Chocolate Factory, it's the chance of a lifetime to feast on the sweets he's always dreamed of. But beyond the gates astonishment awaits, as down the sugary corridors and amongst the incredible edible delights, the five lucky winners discover not everything is as sweet as it seems.

Featuring ingenious stagecraft, the wonder of the original story that has captivated the world for almost 50 years is brought to life with music by Marc Shaiman, and lyrics by Scott Wittman and Marc Shaiman (Grammy winners for Hairspray; Smash), a book by award-winning playwright and adaptor David Greig (The Bacchae; Tintin In Tibet), set and costume designs by Mark Thompson (Mamma Mia!; One Man, Two Guvnors) and choreography by Peter Darling (Billy Elliot The Musical; Matilda The Musical).

Full cast: Jonathan Slinger, Barry James, Ross Dawes, Josefina Gabrielle, Jasna Ivir, Paul J. Medford, Lara Denning, Derek Hagen, Roni Page, Myra Sands, Kraig Thornber, Joe Allen, Meg Astin, Joel Baylis, Andy Brady, Simon Campbell, Georgia Carling, Andrew Carthy, Collette Coleman, Dan Cooke, Divine Cresswell, Billy Cullum, Connor Dowling, Kelly Edwards, Gemma Fuller, Kate Graham, Sam Lathwood, Lucinda Lawrence, Mark Oxtoby, Matthew Rowland, Rebecca Seale, Steven Serlin, Gregory Sims, Robert Tregoning, Tara Verloop, Michelle White, Mark Williamson.

A chocolate garden, an army of squirrels and the curiously peculiar Oompa-Loompas must be believed to be seen in this gigantic new musical that is choc-full of fantastical treats to dazzle your senses

Great staging and acting, specially Charlie. And of course Theatre Royal is an event in itself. But the show lacks memorable tunes.

Brilliantly acted, great ambiance, super effects, all in all a great play. Happy to have seen it!

for me five stars is not enough and only bad comment I can make is that I am so truly disappointed that the show will be shutting down early next year

The show was amazing! The reason it's 4 star and not 5 is because I expected it to included the original songs from the movie, it only included one which was at the end. There was a technical issue in the second half which they dealt with brilliantly. Wasn't a long delay at all. The most annoying problem of the all was people talking throughout!! There was even girls in front of me and my family taking pictures! One of the girls went to take a picture not realising the flash was on too, extermally frustrating. I know it must be hard for staff to deal with at times but standing there constantly 'shushing' them doesn't really help the situation. I paid a lot of money to take my family out and I'm disappointed that people just talk all the way through! Apart from them 3 problems I was absolutely amazed with the show. Actors/ actresses are very talented and to be able to do that at such a young age is brilliant! And the set was really good too, very clever! Hats off to them and highly recommended ??
