BREAKING NEWS: Creator Richard O'Brien To Star In The Rocky Horror Show Limited Run At Playhouse Theatre

Posted on 31 July 2015

Richard O'Brien will return to the West End to star in The Rocky Horror Show, producers have announced. The show will return for a limited run at London's Playhouse Theatre from 11 - 19 September, 2015 preceding a UK tour set to open at the Theatre Royal Brighton on 17 December, 2015.

O'Brien, the creator of the show and former Crystal Maze host, will perform in the limited 11 performance run - including a star-studded gala performance.

The Rocky Horror Show, a musical about an innocent couple, Brad and Janet, who come across an unhinged transvestite scientist who has created a handsome, muscled monster, began life with a limited run at London’s Royal Court theatre in 1973. It became a film in 1975 and the stage tour around the world has hardly stopped since.

On the worldwide cult success of the show Richard O'Brien said: "None of us expected it. One of the great things is that it's a work of juvenilia, isn't it. It really is a childish piece of work but it brings great joy to people."

Directed by Christopher Luscombe and produced by Howard Panter, Picturehouse Entertainment and Rocky Horror Show Company will join forces to broadcast the gala charity performance on 17 September live from the Playhouse Theatre to cinemas across the UK and Europe. In aid of Amnesty International, this will feature a number of special celebrity guest stars.

Featuring a eclectic score of hits such as "The Time Warp", "Dammit Janet" and "Sweet Transvestite", this is a chance to see the wildest party return to the West End for a strictly limited period.

The production will be screened live to cinemas around the UK on 17 December, in a collaboration with Amnesty International.

The musical was adapted into 'The Rocky Horror Picture Show' in 1975 which starred Meat Loaf, Tim Curry and Susan Sarandon.

The Rocky Horror Show tickets go on sale to the general public on Saturday 1 August, 2015.
