Charlie and the Chocolate Factory extends until November 2014 at the Theatre Royal Drury Lane

The producers of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory have announced that the production has extended its West End run at the Theatre Royal Drury Lane by six months until 1st November 2014.

The new musical, based on Roald Dahl’s book, has released almost 400,000 extra tickets. Charlie and the Chocolate Factory has already been seen by almost 300,000 people since it began previews in May this year. The production is directed by Academy Award winner Sam Mendes.
 
The show stars Douglas Hodge as Willy Wonka as well as Nigel Planer as Grandpa Joe, Clive Carter as Mr Salt, Jasna Ivir as Mrs Gloop, Paul J Medford as Mr Beauregarde, Iris Roberts as Mrs Teavee and Myra Sands as Grandma Georgina. 
 
The cast also features: Joe Allen, David Birch, Michelle Bishop, Mireia Mambo Bokele, Matthew Clark, Alex Clatworthy, Jennifer Davison, Luke Fetherston, Nia Fisher, Kate Graham, Clare Halse, Mark Iles, Daniel Ioannou, Kieran Jae, Jane McMurtrie, Natalie Moore-Williams, Sherrie Pennington, Damien Poole, Paul Saunders, Jack Shalloo and Jay Webb.
 
The score features ‘Pure Imagination’ from the 1971 film adaptation as well as new songs composed by Marc Shaiman (music and lyrics) and Scott Wittman (lyrics) who are well known for their work on Hairspray and Smash.
