What is Orpheus Descending about?
Welcome to a small Southern community full of repression, judgement and intolerance where people live what appear to be ordinary, boring small town lives. Lady is trapped in a loveless marriage with an ailing husband. When a guitar-wielding charismatic drifter appears in town, new possibilities full of passion and change open up and secrets from the past come to the surface. Nothing will remain as it is when fact, convention and tradition are torn apart.

The play is understandably not well known, and quite challenging for the audience. The production was excellent and the acting powerful and direct. It was a worthwhile evening that made me think (always a good thing with the theatre), but I'm still not quite sure what to make of it. but I would happily go back to Menier Chocolate Factory for future shows.
