Jamie Lloyd Directs Urinetown's West End Return

The critically acclaimed, sell-out production of Urinetown The Musical will transfer to the Apollo Theatre running from 29 September, 2014.

Director Jamie Lloyd said, “Having attracted a diverse audience of all ages at the St. James earlier this year, I'm busting to bring our production of this brilliantly off-kilter musical comedy to the West End, where I hope we'll make an even bigger splash." On returning to the Apollo, he added, "I'm delighted to return to the Apollo Theatre – the perfect home for our energetic and anarchic cast to run riot in. So, a big thank you to Nica Burns."

This sharp-witted rampant riot of a show tells the tale of a town fit to burst; spending a penny can prove problematic in a place where the privilege to pee has become a punishable offence. There is no such thing as rent free relief until our young hero, Bobby Strong, appears – with more than a good set of pipes – and starts a revolution!

Originally running on Broadway with rave reviews from 2001 until 2004, Urinetown was nominated for ten Tony Awards and won for Best Book, Best Score, and Best Direction. Additionally it won three Outer Critics Circle Awards, two Lucille Lortel Awards, two Obie Awards and the Drama League Award for Best Musical.

Director Jamie Lloyd’s theatre credits include: Richard III, The Pride, The Hothouse and Macbeth (Olivier nomination for Best Revival), all for Jamie Lloyd Productions at Trafalgar Transformed, Trafalgar Studios, a production venture with Ambassador Theatre Group. He has also directed plays as a part of the Old Vic 24 Hour Plays and the Royal Court International Residencies. Jamie was Associate Director of the Donmar from 2008 to 2011 and Associate Artist of Headlong. Jamie will direct and is co-writing Back to The Future – The Musical in 2015.

Urinetown also includes music and lyrics by Mark Hollmann and book and lyrics by Greg Kotis. Production design is by Evening Standard award winner Soutra Gilmour, choreography by Ann Yee, lighting design by Adam Silverman, sound design by Terry Jardine & Nick Lidster, wig and hair design by Richard Mawbey, fight direction by Kate Water, orchestrations by Bruce Coughlin, and finally musical supervision & direction by Alan Williams.
