Previously sold-out play from Doctor Who writer Joy Wilkinson transfers to Wilton's Music Hall!

Following a sold-out run at the Southwark Playhouse from Doctor Who writer Joy Wilkinson is the otherwise untold and not well-known important part of the City’s history. Book The Sweet Science of Bruising tickets now to be sure you don’t miss out on its transfer to Wilton’s Music Hall where it will run for a limited time, beginning 5 June to 29 June 2019.

What is this important historical story about?

Set in 1869, right in the midst of Victorian London is a theatre, at a time when only the strongest survived. It was a time when women were constricted, constrained and controlled, whether that was by corsets, men or society as a whole; we see four very different women in the search of freedom. They are drawn to the dark underground world of female boxing where they find an unexpected liberation in the boxing ring. Their lives intertwine on their journey, which takes us from grand drawing rooms to unruly backstreet pubs. These women aren’t just fighting in the ring but against the inequality that holds them back. However, as the final showdown approaches, the aim of being the Lady Boxing Champion of the World sets to divide them again as only one can be victorious.
