Laurent Pelly’s larger-than-life production evokes military life in the Tyrolean alps with humour, style and a very big tank… Playing at the Royal Opera House for a strictly limited run, book your official tickets to La Fille du regiment today!
Discovered as a baby on the battlefield, the spirited tomboy Marie has been raised by the soldiers of the 21st Regiment, with Sergeant Sulpice as her devoted father figure. Determined that Marie should marry one of their own, Sulpice is horrified when she falls for Tonio, a Tyrolean peasant - until Tonio eagerly enlists to prove himself worthy of her love. But when the formidable Marquise de Berkenfield arrives, a long-buried secret about Marie’s true identity comes to light, threatening to tear the young lovers apart. As duty, class, and romance collide, the question remains: can love conquer all?
La Fille du regiment is sung in French with English surtitles, which are displayed on screens above the stage and around the auditorium.
