About The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time

WINNER OF 7 OLIVIER AWARDS!

The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time, the National Theatre's highly acclaimed production based on Mark Haddon's award-winning novel transfers to the West End's Gielgud Theatre

In The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time, fifteen years old Christopher stands beside Mrs Shears' dead dog. It has been speared with a garden fork, it is seven minutes after midnight and Christopher is under suspicion. He records each fact in the book he is writing to solve the mystery of who murdered Wellington.

He has an extraordinary brain, exceptional at maths while ill-equipped to interpret everyday life. He has never ventured alone beyond the end of his road, he detests being touched and he distrusts strangers. But his detective work, forbidden by his father, takes him on a frightening journey that upturns his world.

The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time is adapted by Simon Stephens and directed by Marianne Elliott and was acclaimed by critics and audiences alike during its sell-out run at the National's Cottesloe Theatre.

The play was acted well with an extraordinarily clever stage. The cast and stage created special effects that were really impressive. The play was slow to get into and I was ambivalent till about half way through. It did get much more engaging toward the end. I think this is true of the book too, it took me a while to get into. Personally I think the book was over hyped. I took my family. My youngest 8 didn't like it, however my 10 year old did (she's a natural actress) and my 17 year old son enjoyed it too... But it was the slightly forced enjoyment of "worthy" . I'm glad I went to see it, but I wouldn't go again.

This was a fantastic production, engrossing, moving and entertaining. The set was a brilliant concept and from "the Gods" I thought it was particularly effective. I would recommend this play to young and old - there is something there for everyone.

A brilliant production of this book. Actor playing Christopher is superb and you get totally caught up in his world. He got a well deserved standing ovation. As a parent of a child with autism I left with a tear in my eye, as did several other memebers of the audience.
